BETTER U.S. MAP HIDDEN FEATURES, GROUP RATES, ETC.
BOSS KEY (Registered Vers. only)
B.U.S.M. features a "Boss Key" (Enter Key) for those that would like to keep
a copy at work to play with "discretely" (that's also the main reason for the
Sound Card). Boss Keys, (a key that you can quickly hit to bring up a fake work screen) are becoming increasingly popular, but I wanted to create one
that was a little different. However, I realized that some bosses - lacking a
sense of humor - might not appreciate this one, so I also provided a safer
alternative. To use the alternate screen for your "Boss Key", click the Info
button on the Main Card to go to the Configure Card, then click upon the
word "Configure" (hidden button) at the top left of the screen. A dialog box
will appear to provide you with a choice of "Serious", "Fun", or "Cancel".
(YOU CAN ALSO ACCESS THIS DIALOG FROM ANYWHERE IN THE STACK VIA THE
MESSAGE BOX. WHILE HOLDING DOWN the Command key, type an "M" to
bring up the Message Box. Then type the word "Alter" in the Message Box
and press return).
TROUBLESHOOTING
If you are using HyperCard 2.0 or above, remember that you will have to
convert B.U.S.M. to HyperCard 2.0 format before it will work properly.
PREVENTING PEEKING
IF YOU ARE USING HYPERCARD 2.0 (or above) and the Registered version, you
can take advantage of a badly-needed feature that has recently been added to
HyperCard. To eliminate cheating by HyperCard hackers, select the "Protect
Stack" menu selection from the "File" menu. Then turn on the new "Can't
Peek" option in the Protect Stack dialog box (you may also choose to limit the user level, or password protect the stack while you are there, but DON'T
FORGET YOUR PASSWORD!). If you don't know how you could possibly cheat
by "peeking" at the invisible buttons with less than HyperCard 2.0, then,
uh...forget I ever mentioned it.
HIDDEN BUTTONS (Mostly in Registered Version.)
Anticipating the exploratory nature of children (and many adult Mac users),
I provided a few actions to take place when people click in unexpected places, like some text fields, on some pictures, etc. (If Junior Explorers find the Hidden Button that is used to configure the "Boss Key", the worst that they can do is change your choice (see "Boss Key" above). You can always change it back. Chances are, if Little Marco Polo's are using B.U.S.M. in your
environment, you probably don't have bosses to worry about anyway, (i.e.
schools, home use, etc.).
GAMER PROJECT DISCOUNT
If you order the Registered version, a text file Order Form will be included
entitling you to a $3.00 discount on a one year membership in the Home &
School Mac User Group (Gamer Project). At the time of this release,
membership is only $15 ($12 with discount). They provide terrific support and an efficient means of distribution for authors of Mac software directed at the home/school market, while providing the latest such P.D. & Shareware software, reviews, information, etc. to their members.
The Gamer Project distributes a BI-MONTHLY DISK BASED MAGAZINE, rather than the typical user group newsletter. For a small handling fee, they will also send you special telecommunications software,(if interested) which will enable you to access their bulletin board with a GUI
(Graphical User Interface, like Macintosh users are used to). This BBS
features a large library of the latest files of interest to home/school users.
In addition, all the remaining disk space is PACKED, (using compression
software), with educational & entertainment software.
NOTE: a disk-based magazine is environmentally responsible. When a paper
magazine becomes outdated, you toss it out. When a disk-based magazine
becomes outdated, you can remove the label and completely "recycle" it into new disk space!
TIME ZONE QUIZ
B.U.S.M. is described has having three quiz modes, however, the "Time Zone
Quiz" is a fourth quiz that was thrown in (because it was simple to do - no
Score Card). Although it is not listed on the Quiz Select card, you can access
it there by clicking on the Time at the top of the screen. (You can also reach
it from the Time Zone Card).
STATE FACTS ZOOM VIEW
Now you can click upon the highlighted state on the State Facts card's small
map, to see a close-up view of the state (...same as Command key clicking on
the Main Card).
GROUP RATES
Pardon me while I fantasize, but occasionally, people who buy for a group -
not only PAY for shareware - they pay on a "per copy" basis (it's easier
when you aren't spending your own money). While this certainly is not expected, I couldn't resist clarifying my preferences, should you wish to do so:
